The town of Leyburn on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, in Wensleydale, is mentioned in the Domesday Book. It has typical northern architecture with a high street full of handsome stone buildings.
Leyburn’s main claim to fame is that the Wensleydale Agricultural Show is held at the end of August each year in the local showground. The Leyburn Auction Ground holds regular livestock auctions for the farming community around the town. Perhaps not agricultural as such but the Dales Festival of Food and Drink is held in Leyburn during the first week of May. This is a chance for local producers to show off their products and acquire fans. There are cookery demonstrations, musical performances, drinks tents including one featuring Leyburn’s own Festival Ale, various beers and ciders plus lots of entertainment for children.
