West Witton is a small village on the A684, that runs from Bedale to Hawes and on to Sedbergh, in Wensleydale. Most of the houses in the village lie along the main road. There are a few amenities for holidaymakers such as a hotel, café, village store and various footpaths that offer gentle walks in very pretty countryside.
For tourists who have gone on holiday without a book, it's worth popping into the tea rooms attached to the local store where a library of second hand books is on hand. Enjoy a very good coffee or tea served in a pot plus a variety of savoury or sweet Yorkshire snacks and experience warm local hospitality.
Burning Bartle Weekend
An ancient tradition is celebrated in the village on the Saturday nearest to St. Batholomew's Day when the village people burn Bartle. This is the chance to see a local custom which is a spectacle of grown men creating a good excuse to enjoy a night of revelry.
